2010 Mendocino Trail Symposium

  

The Mendocino Trail Symposium, held Saturday, January 9, 2010, was a Great Success!

This one day event allowed the public to experience local trails for all user types, hear about what trail and active transportation opportunities are out there, and to learn and become a part of future trail opportunities.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE EVENT:

Fort Bragg Area Trail Outings Held as Part of the Symposium
Several trail outings were held in the morning prior to the open house, including outings for pedestrians, equestrians, cyclists, kayakers and more.  Over 200 people attended the local outings, including one outing to The form Georgia-Pacific Mill Site with the City of Fort Bragg.

 

Open House with Presentations
A speaker panel of local land managers and planners shared a multi-media presentation on existing trails for hiking, biking, horse-back riding, and water trails.

A second panel of trail planning professionals shared where new trails are planned and needed, with emphasis on creating connective trail segments to existing trail systems, both coastal and inland. 

 

Key-note speaker Marlene Padilla shared her thru-hike experience hiking the California Coastal Trail (CCT) from Oregon to Mexico
Marlene Padilla is a long-time resident of Mendocino County and has led trail building crews through-out the state.  Marlene served as a crew leader for the Moat Creek to Ross Creek Trail in Point Arena where she now resides.  Marlene completed hiking the 1300 miles of CCT this September. 

 

Information booths on all things trails
Over a dozen informational booths related to local and regional transportation systems, recreation, tourism promotion, and more.
