The Caspar Beach Trail
The Mendocino Land Trust is in the process of planning and permitting a section of California Coastal Trail through property owned by MLT in Caspar, California. The trail would link Caspar Beach to the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse Station State Historic Perserve through the Doyle Creek watershed. This area was conserved with funding from the State Coastal Conservancy and will be conveyed to California State Parks in 2010. Under the current California Coastal Trail Planning grant, MLT has undertaken the needed technical studies to develop site plans and cost estimates for trail construction and beach improvements.

We need your help to make this trail a reality. The 78 acre Caspar Property was aquired in 1999 for the purpose of conservation and recreation. MLT is asking people who care to help with the cost of permitting and building a segment of the CCT through this property before it is conveyed to State Parks. We are also looking for stewardship money to maintain the trail once it is built. Please contact MLT for more information or if you would like to contribute to the Caspar Beach Trail fund. |
As part of the planning process, MLT organized community members interested in planning access to form an Advisory Group which meets on an as-needed basis. The Caspar Headlands and Trail Advisory Group members represent Caspar proper and Caspar South residents, local trail enthusiasts, birders, as well as MLT and State Park staff. The Group has thus far reviewed draft trail plans for the Caspar Beach Trail, given input into management and stewardship of the proposed trail and future CCT at Caspar Headlands, and hiked the proposed Caspar Beach Trail route.
If you are interested in attending a Caspar Headlands and Trail Advisory Group meeting or receiving meeting minutes, please contact Tamira Jones, Coastal Access Program Manager, at tjones@mendocinolandtrust.org or call 707-962-0470.
