Coastal Cleanup Day
Mendocino Land Trust has coordinated the California Coastal Commission's Coastal Cleanup Day in Mendocino County since 2003. This event takes place every year on the third Saturday in September.
We work with individuals, businesses and community organizations to establish dozens of cleanup sites throughout Mendocino County. In 2016 alone, with the help of more than 300 volunteers, this effort removed over 5,500 pounds of trash and recyclables from our beaches and waterways.
There is no need to RSVP or sign up ahead of time, just go to our event page for a list of locations, show up, check in, and lend a hand. Supplies are provided on site, but we ask all volunteers to please bring their own work gloves, water bottle, and garbage receptacle (bucket, bag, etc.) to help reduce waste. If you can't make it to one of the beaches on the list, we encourage you to pick up trash wherever you are. You can participate in the International Coastal Cleanup Day citizen-science trash-tracking initiative by downloading the CleanSwell app and submitting your own data, anytime, anywhere.
Coastal Cleanup Day is a great way for families, students, service groups, and neighbors to join together to take care of our fragile marine environment, show community support for our shared natural resources, and have fun. If you would like to captain a beach or organize a group, please contact our office at (707) 962-0470 or email.
